Reclaimed materials and rugged textures built a renewed spirit
The challenge
Beach club Fonk Beach needed an upgrade to align with fresh ambitions. The existing pavilion had an outdated appearance, and the goal was to offer guests a new hospitality experience while working within a limited budget. The upgrade had to incorporate the new brand essence of Fonk Beach and minimise negative environmental impact.
The impact
The design revitalised both the interior and exterior through a strategic use of color, lighting, and a completely new layout. A new spatial arrangement for the restaurant and expansive terrace improved flow while exclusively using thrifted and second-hand furniture, some of which was refinished or reupholstered. Beyond refreshing the ambiance, the upgrade reinforced Fonk Beach’s renewed brand identity.
The interior captures a rugged yet inviting character, inspired by maritime traditions and the worn charm of nordic coastal villages. Rich textures and unpolished finishes enhance its authenticity and intrinsic quality. Emphasising a minimal-waste approach, building materials were creatively reused or repurposed, ensuring a cost-effective and sustainable transformation.
The feedback
"Naomi understood exactly what we needed—she translated our vision into a design that feels authentic, and completely in tune with Fonk. She reused our existing furniture and old materials in smart ways. Her ability to bring the whole inventory together with a strong new aesthetic made the whole process smooth and inspiring. She didn’t just upgrade the space; she gave it a new soul."
